In the first three years of his administration, Trump has gutted the refugee resettlement program. Last September, he tried to outsource campaign to end the program by requiring governments and localities to “opt in” to refugee resettlement. After hearing from hundreds of supporters, Governor Lee became the first governor in the South to consent to continued refugee resettlement.
Now, the anti-refugee movement is fighting back.
There have been several bills filed in the state legislature to reverse Governor Lee’s decision and further politicize the issue of refugee resettlement. Nearly two dozen counties are considering resolutions to urge Governor Lee to reverse his decision and to declare refugees unwelcome in their county.
While the anti-refugee movement thinks Tennessee can lead the nation in shutting our doors on refugees, we know our state can be a leader in welcoming refugees. Together with our partners and supportive communities across the state, we’ve already defeated six of these resolutions
We need you to join us in building the most powerful movement in the country to defend refugee resettlement.
Will you take 1 minute to send a message to your state representatives and county commissioners telling them you support refugee resettlement and oppose efforts to undermine Governor Lee’s decision?
