Keep Families Together: Stop ICE from using our local jail to deport Nashvillians
To: Mayor Cooper, Sheriff Daron Hall, and Members of the Nashville Metro Council:
We, the undersigned, urge you to stop allowing ICE to use our local jail to deport Nashville residents and separate families. In this historic moment, we need local elected officials to protect our communities and our values, not help Trump's deportation force.
Each week in Nashville, ICE is terrorizing immigrant neighborhoods and ripping residents away from their families and communities. The federal government’s campaign of mass deportations is made easier by a voluntary contract that allows the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) to rent bed space to ICE. This agreement not only helps ICE to separate our families, but it erodes trust in local government and betrays our values.
If Nashville prides ourselves on being a welcoming city - why are we part of just 6% of jurisdictions that allows ICE to use our jail as a short-term immigrant detention facility?
To be a truly welcoming city, Nashville needs to cut the contract and stop letting ICE rent beds in our jail.
Sign this petition and urge Nashville elected officials to ensure our local jail isn’t helping ICE deport our neighbors, friends, and families.
